We are deeply saddened by the news that our supporter Richard Preston has died.
Richard was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in November 2013, after he suffered persistent headaches. After a visit to the optician, Richard was referred to hospital where a CT scan revealed a growth the size of a large apricot in his brain.
A five-hour surgery confirmed the tumour was a glioblastoma and Richard was given a bleak prognosis of just two to five years.
Incredibly, Richard lived with his tumour for 12 years. In that time he married his long-term partner, Wendy, travelled the world and pursued many hobbies, including fixing computers. He worked closely with Brain Tumour Research, sharing his story to raise awareness and supporting our campaigns.
Sadly, Richard’s condition deteriorated over recent weeks. He passed away peacefully yesterday (25th August), aged 56.
“Richard’s determination and positivity were an inspiration to so many in our community. He was a gentle soul who loved travelling and building LEGO. He had an extraordinary presence and I was privileged to get to know him a little over the years. We send condolences to Wendy and all who knew and loved Richard,” said Sue Castle-Smith, our Director of Marketing and Communications.
Rest in peace, Richard.
