Remembering Ria on a milestone birthday

Our heartfelt thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Ria Melvin, the inspiration for our Fundraising Group Raising4Ria, who should have been celebrating her 30th birthday this week.

Ria (pictured above, and below next to her dad, with sister Kaz and mum Carol in front) was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in December 2018 and underwent the standard treatment of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as immunotherapy in Germany, but nothing could save her.  Meanwhile she was a dedicated fundraiser and campaigner for the Charity. A first class honours graduate in sports and business management, Ria passed away aged 25, on 5th August 2021.

Ria and her family

Since losing their beloved daughter and sister, Carol and Kaz have continued to build on Ria's legacy, fundraising for Raising4Ria, which has now raised more than £142,000 to help find a cure.

Additionally, many of Ria's friends who played football with her for Loughborough University, get together annually to mark her anniversary while taking on a challenge to add to Raising4Ria's incredible fundraising.

If you are inspired, you can donate to Raising4Ria here.
