Schoolboy Harrison Hawkins has added an amazing £170 last weekend to the incredible total of more than £92,000 raised by our Fundraising Group A New Hope for Ethan, by holding a tombola on the Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare.
The 11-year-old was inspired to help fund the fight for a cure after losing his cousin Ethan Treharne (pictured above far right) to a glioblastoma in 2021, aged 17.
Harrison said: “Ethan was quite a bit older than me, but we shared a love of sport and particularly football. Since Ethan died, I’ve helped at the annual A New Hope for Ethan Sellebrity Soccer matches when we mark Ethan’s birthday on 29th January.”
Harrison (pictured below left and above with ‘Nanni Kari’) had support from his friend Liam Craemer as well as his grandparents, Kari and Scott Hunter, and was spurred on by a visit from the pier’s mascot, Dani the Donkey!

Kari, who works in the Grand Pier team, has raised more than £10,000 by holding quizzes twice a year, with the next one scheduled for Saturday 18th October.
Ethan’s mum, Nikki, said: “We are so proud of Harrison and know Ethan would be too. At his young age, joining us in fundraising in Ethan’s memory is wonderful. Harrison always loves the tombola at our events and has now taken up the role of running his own stall.
“We continue to be eternally grateful to Kari, the pier’s owner, Michelle Michael, and all the Grand Pier team for their support, not only in memory of Ethan, but also during his treatment. Michelle was so moved when Ethan ran out of treatment options on the NHS, she gave us £21,000 from her charity foundation to help Ethan access pioneering treatment in Germany.”
