An inspiring workshop with our Member Charities

Yesterday, a productive and inspiring workshop with representatives from our Member Charities, quickly became a celebration of how we can all collaborate towards improving outcomes for those affected by brain tumours, while identifying other ways we can work more closely together.

Dan Knowles, CEO of Brain Tumour Research, welcomed the delegates to Aston University in Birmingham and shared the Charity’s initiatives and goals for the year before passing over to our Member Charities to share their highlights since our last workshop back in February and plans for the months ahead

We enjoyed a moving presentation from David Taylor and Jeremy Silverstone in a slot to shine a spotlight on In Sue’s Name. It was heartwarming to hear how close they have become to Dr Myrianni Constantinou, the researcher they sponsored through her PhD at Queen Mary University of London. Dr Constantinou attended In Sue’s Name’s Greek Night fundraiser last year where she shared details of her research work into glioblastoma – the type of brain tumour which killed David’s daughter Sue Blasotta and she has recently become a Trustee of In Sue’s Name.

Dr Karen Noble, Director of Research, Policy and Innovation, spoke about the developments in research at our Centres of Excellence, while Hugh Adams, Head of Stakeholder Relations, updated us on campaigning and how we can all play our part by enlisting our local MP to become an advocate for the brain tumour cause.

Katrina Jones, Head of Community and Digital Fundraising and Eleni Paschou, Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships (pictured above), shared insights about how we can increase our collective impact through community fundraising and events, as well as applying for grants and building corporate relationships.

We were delighted to receive feedback from the delegates, which included:

“Being able to get together to talk about ways we can collaborate is so useful. Finding enough time to run a charity in between working can be quite daunting, as well as isolating.”

“So inspiring to spend the day with such a passionate and determined group of people. Have loved hearing the ideas and progress from all the Member Charities.”

“We have a great relationship with the Brain Tumour Research team and especially PR & Comms who have been incredible in identifying opportunities to raise awareness.”

“It was great to have time to talk generally and for Q&A sessions.

We are grateful for the ongoing support of our work with our valued Member Charities. You can learn more here or contact us about joining our family of Member Charities.
