Major public transport firm Plymouth Citybus has partnered with Brain Tumour Research and the University of Plymouth, launching a special bus to promote the vital brain tumour research taking place within the city.
Plymouth Citybus operates in the heart of Devon’s Ocean City community and carries over 18 million passengers a year. The colourful bus has been designed to help raise awareness and funds for vital research as it travels around Plymouth for the next few years.
The University of Plymouth houses one of our Research Centres of Excellence and is one of Europe’s leading low-grade brain tumour science facilities.
The diverse, world-class medical research team here is trying to accelerate the pathway for effective treatments for brain tumours from laboratory bench to patient bedside to help stop this devastating disease. The research here could have implications for patients many different types of brain tumour and the team is collaborating closely with colleagues in our other Centres of Excellence.
Managing Director of Plymouth Citybus, Richard Stevens, said: “To have such a cutting-edge research facility on our doorstep is great for Plymouth and shows that the city is leading the way in research into brain tumours. We're proud to be supporting such a worthwhile cause and hope the striking new bus really helps to raise awareness of a disease that affects so many people each year. Passengers travelling on the bus will be able to donate on board as well as find out more about where the money raised will go."
