Saddling up for 200k in May Your Way

2 min read

A mother and daughter from South Woodford, East London, are putting their best hooves forward to complete the 200k in May Your Way challenge.

Una McEvoy (pictured above far left) and 13-year-old daughter, Skye (above right), are raising funds for the Charity in memory of Una’s nan, Sylvia Connors, lost to a brain tumour in 2016.

Initially, the family thought 80-year-old Sylvia (pictured below with Skye as a baby), who lived in Great Dunmow, had dementia, following episodes of confusion. Despite an operation, the tumour was too aggressive and Sylvia died four months later.

Una said: “Nan deteriorated very quickly, and her treatment options were limited. The brain is very complex, which is why we need to invest in research into brain tumours. The more information there is on the disease, the more that can be done to help people.”

Una and Skye are heading out on hacks at least four times a week, for at least two hours at a time, on their ponies Treacle and Hugo, and have already raised an impressive total of more than £600.

It’s not too late to register for £200k in May Your Way. The month is well underway now, but why not sign up as a team? You’ll soon catch up on those kilometres! Simply join our Facebook Group to get started, or sign up online here and get moving in any way you wish to help find a cure.

When you register to take part and set up your fundraising page, you’ll receive a FREE emoji t-shirt, printed tracker and fundraising pack. Once your donations hit £50, you’ll also receive a FREE baseball cap. Raise £137 or more – 5% of the cost of a day’s research at a Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence – and you’ll earn a special medal, too, to commemorate all you have achieved.

Alternatively, make a donation to Una and Skye’s fundraising page.

Wishing Una and Skye, and all those taking part in 200k in May Your Way, our very best!
