Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Jay Lynchehaun today as we received the sad news that he died yesterday, 7th March, aged 35. His mum Sharon Hacking told us “Jay was surrounded by love as he took his last breath” with his wife Bex, mum and dad, Sharon and Kev and sister Jo by his side.
Jay set up our Member Charity inbetweenears to support young adults with brain tumours and to fund research to help others with brain cancer.
Diagnosed in 2011, aged 25 with a glioblastoma (GBM) Jay went on to meet Bex eight years ago while he was still having three-monthly scans and they had two gorgeous children, Teddy, now five, and 22-month-old Orla.
It had only been when Jay started to struggle with reading numbers or words and have little seizures that he was eventually diagnosed with a brain tumour after being told he was suffering with depression and told to have counselling. A craniotomy followed after which he was given a diagnosis of six months.
Jay’s mum Sharon has written on Facebook: “Jay truly was an inspiration to many, many people. Everyone who ever met him loved him. He was kind and caring and loving and generous. He lit up a room when he walked into it. Jay truly was my hero.”
Sadly, Jay would have turned 36 on 27th March this year – Mother’s Day.
