Fundraising Groups go the extra mile

Our amazing Fundraising Groups are championing the fight to find a cure for all types of brain tumours, raising tens of thousands of pounds and increasing awareness of this devastating disease.

Memories of a loved one often inspire their dedication, and we’re proud to share some recent highlights from across the UK.

LEGO® lover, Aaron Wharton (pictured top centre), passed away aged seven from a medulloblastoma. In his memory, Aaron’s Army raised funds and awareness throughout May with the Great Lego Build.

Katie Smith (pictured top left with husband Luke) was diagnosed with an oligoastrocytoma in 2015, aged 30, later reclassified as an oligodendroglioma. It led her to establish Brainstorm. Last month Katie attended a Buckingham Palace garden party with husband Luke, ahead of receiving an MBE later this year for her contribution to charity and Brain Tumour Research in particular.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge was tackled for the second year running by Amy Bradley from Mick’s Heroes in memory of her beloved dad Mick Bradley who passed away from a glioblastoma. Amy was accompanied by her gym buddies and raised more than £6,000.

In April, Sofie Armitage (pictured below with her boyfriend) from Raising4Ria and Jess Walklin (pictured top right) of Caroline’s There, both completed the TCS London Marathon. Sofie raised more than £5,700 in memory of her university friend Ria Melvin, who passed away aged 25 from a glioblastoma. Jess, who first ran the London Marathon in 2024 dressed in a pink brain costume, raised more than £9,900 in memory of his mum Caroline Walklin who passed away from an oligodendroglioma.

Also stepping up was Tilini Lilley (pictured below), who progressed from Couch to 5K to complete the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Half Marathon Run for John’s Crew in memory of John Lilley, who died from a glioblastoma, on what would have been her father-in-law’s 64th birthday.
