Freemasons’ incredible fundraising in memory of George

A Hampshire Masonic Lodge has completed a year of fundraising on behalf of Brain Tumour Research, donating close to £3,000 to support us in our fight to find a cure.

Led by Worshipful Master Rob Connor, the Eling Manor Lodge in Totton held raffles at each of its six meetings throughout the year, thanks to generous prize donations from its members.

The year of fundraising recently culminated in a lavish Partners’ Festival held at Southampton FC stadium, where 130 attendees enjoyed a dinner and dance, before a fundraising raffle, with prizes ranging from wine and chocolate through to the auction of a shell casing fired by the Royal Artillery at the King’s coronation. Southampton FC donated a signed shirt and ball, and there was also a whisky draw. More than £1,200 was raised for Brain Tumour Research on the night.

The generous donation is being made in memory of George Fox (above right) who lost his life to a glioblastoma brain tumour in April 2022, at just 13 years of age.

Rob said: “My wife, Tammy, is a colleague of Louise, George’s mum, and was devastated to watch the family’s heartbreak. Having a son of the same age at the time, it really hit home. We were keen to do anything we could to help the Fox family raise awareness and money to find more effective treatments, so that other families may never have to endure a loss like theirs.”

Previously, Rob had witnessed his friend and fellow Freemason Steve Blake endure the devastation of a meningioma diagnosis, in May 2017, at the age of 42.

Rob, who presented the fundraising cheque with Tammy to George’s parents’, Louise and Matt, (pictured above centre, on far left and second from right), is set to take on a new post as Worshipful Master of Westminster City Council Lodge later this year, where he is committed to fulfilling another year of fundraising on our behalf. Our heartfelt thanks go to the Freemasons for their incredible fundraising, which is helping us fulfil our vision to find a cure for all types of brain tumours.
