Dalcour Maclaren employee heads for the hills in the fight to find a cure

A Staffordshire man has taken on a gruelling fell-running challenge to raise vital funds to help find a cure for brain cancer.

Andrew Barker, 46, from Denstone, completed The Fellsman ultra-marathon in the Yorkshire Dales on 26th April, tackling more than 11,000 feet of elevation and 61 miles of unpredictable moorland terrain. Starting in Ingleton and finishing in Threshfield, Andrew completed the course in just 14 hours and 26 minutes.

Andrew said: “I'm constantly looking for bigger running challenges, and The Fellsman was definitely one that was going to push me way outside of my comfort zone! Because of its uniqueness, it has also generated significant interest, which I really hope has helped raise awareness of the amazing work that Brain Tumour Research does.”

Andrew is an employee of utilities and infrastructure consultancy firm Dalcour Maclaren, who last January made Brain Tumour Research its Charity of the Year, pledging its support to fundraise and raise awareness of brain tumours.

Andrew said: “It was a huge physical and mental test for me, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by those diagnosed with a brain tumour. I am really pleased to play a small part in Dalcour Maclaren’s overall contribution to raising awareness and funds for such an important charity, which is ultimately saving lives.”

Our thanks go to Andrew and the ongoing efforts of all at Dalcour Maclaren; corporate partnerships like this provide a lifeline for us, funding ground-breaking research in our Centres of Excellence and helping us to improve treatment options and outcomes for patients affected by this devastating disease.
