Our What Does Hope Mean To You? film has won bronze in the Smiley Charity Film Awards.

The film was released to mark our Ambassador Sam Suriakumar's 40th birthday in July 2025. It was a milestone Sam thought he might not see when he was diagnosed with a glioma in 2020.

In the film, Sam shares his brain tumour journey and explains why, for patients such as him, research into the disease is so critical.

Sue Castle-Smith, our Director of Marketing and Communications, said: “We are delighted that our film has been recognised in the Smiley Charity Film Awards and we’re grateful to Sam for his longstanding support of Brain Tumour Research. Sam’s story is inspiring, but it is also a stark reminder that brain tumours are indiscriminate and can affect anyone at any age. As Sam says in the film, hope for brain tumours patients means personalised treatments, better understanding of genomics and clinical trials, and the only way we will achieve this is through research. That is why we are calling on Government to increase the national investment so that patients and families affected by this devastating disease have hope for the future.”
