Yesterday (Tuesday 13th) saw the latest meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Brain Tumours, in which we welcomed Health Minister Ashley Dalton for the entire hour. As someone with lived experience of cancer, Minister Dalton brought passion and resolve to the meeting, and was keen to hear from Parliamentarians and campaigners alike.
The minister was clear: there is no cap on funding for research into brain tumours – the challenge is unblocking the barriers that prevent funds from being used effectively.
She pledged to:
• Review the panels that oversee research proposals
• Improve public awareness around clinical trials
• Work with charities to promote trial participation
She noted there are currently 25 active trials in the UK but recruitment remains a key issue. “We need you to work with us to get the word out,” she said to charities.
The Minister closed with a commitment to get the right people in the room to unlock progress on clinical trials.
A productive evening ended with agreed actions to take forward over the coming months – and Brain Tumour Research, as the provider of the secretariat for the group, looks forward to taking responsibility for these.
Support our aims and campaign with us.
