Widow volunteers to help find a cure

2 min read

A woman who lost her husband to a brain tumour just six months after his diagnosis is joining the fight to help find a cure.

Stuart Edwards was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in April 2021 after experiencing months of debilitating pain in his head and neck. Following his “terrifying” diagnosis, Stuart underwent multiple surgeries, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but the cancer spread to his spine. Stuart died aged 52 on 8th October 2021, leaving his wife, Melanie and daughters, Maddie and Ivy.

Now, Melanie has shared Stuart’s story to help raise awareness and is looking forward to joining our team of volunteers helping to fund the fight against this devastating disease.

She said: “Towards the end of Stuart’s life, it very much felt like because treatment had ended, we were dealing with all the continuing symptoms on our own. We need more research so we can understand brain tumours and eventually work towards finding a cure.”

Mel Tiley, our Community Development Manager, said: “We’re so sorry to hear that Stuart died shortly after his diagnosis. We’re incredibly grateful to Melanie for choosing to volunteer with us and for helping to raise awareness in Stuart’s memory. The family’s experience reminds us that research is desperately needed to help better understand brain tumours and ultimately, find a cure.”
