Brain Tumour Research supporters are amongst those who will be baton bearers as The Queen’s Baton Relay reaches England.
The relay began on 7th October 2021, with Her Majesty placing her message to the Commonwealth into the baton. Having visited the 71 Commonwealth nations and territories, it arrived in England on Monday (4th July) to complete a 25-day, 2,500-mile tour, finishing at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 28th July.
Today (6th July), Simon Tier will be the first baton bearer selected for their support of Brain Tumour Research to take up the baton. He has raised more than £40,000 for the charity after losing a number of friends to brain tumours.
As the route progresses over the next few weeks, also carrying the baton will be: Maleehah Liaquat (pictured) in honour of her sister Amani; Melissa Ross who is living with an inoperable brain tumour; Luke Lambert who has raised thousands in memory of his mum; grandad Alan Holmes who lost his grandson Matthew to the disease; Katie Smith who set up the Brainstorm Fundraising Group; and Penny Church whose son Fin died aged 11.
