Tom and Danny, who lost their dad, Jonathan Wake in March this year, are honouring him in an incredible 48-hour challenge which appropriately culminates today, Father’s Day.
Along with Jonathan’s identical twin Stephen and hundreds of friends, family and work colleagues who knew and loved Jonathan, Tom and Danny started out on Friday, Wear A Hat Day with Flowers, to run four miles every four hours for 48 hours.
The 4.4.48 challenge is the equivalent of two marathons in two days, and means that the runners are suffering with sleep deprivation as it’s only possible to grab around two hours’ sleep at a time.
With his dad’s funeral taking place just two weeks before lockdown, Tom wanted to do something positive to help make a difference for people diagnosed with brain tumours in the future, but also help his own physical and mental health.
Tom (photographed right with his dad and brother Danny on the left), who has been interviewed on BBC Radio Suffolk, said: “Dad was a truly special man and losing him so quickly after he first became ill has been completely heart-wrenching. As Dad was so much into running himself – at one time he was in the top five runners in England – I thought the 4.4.48 challenge, the brain-child of former US Navy SEAL David Goggins, would be very appropriate and a real test of physical and mental endurance.”
