Amy and Megan Bradley are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday 3rd June inspired by their dad Michael who was diagnosed with an inoperable glioblastoma (GBM) in September, two weeks before his 63rd birthday.
Michael’s diagnosis comes seven years after his older brother Dave died from a GBM, just 10 months after he was diagnosed in 2016. Dave was also aged 63.
Joining Amy and Megan for the challenge are close friends Izzy Limb, Ashleigh Lamb and Tiffany Green. The team is aiming to summit all three peaks in 12 hours, walking a total of 24.5 miles.
Describing the moment they learned about her dad’s devastating diagnosis, the sisters say it felt as though “someone had pulled all of the air out of me”. Amy added: “I was frustrated and angry, I couldn’t believe what I was being told. It took me days to be able to look at Dad. I couldn’t even talk to him some days without sobbing.”
Now, the family is focusing their efforts on fundraising for Brain Tumour Research. As well as taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, they are getting involved in Wear A Hat Day on Friday 31st March, doing a firewalk, have organised a charity football match and events at local pubs, and more!
Amy added: “You hear about cancers like prostate, breast and leukaemia, but people are much less aware of brain tumours. They’re perceived as being quite rare, but they’re not. For me it’s all about raising funds to help find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
“Fundraising for Brain Tumour Research is something positive to focus on – it means a lot to me that it’s not just going towards helping my dad, but helping others in the future too.”
