Staff and punters at an East Sussex pub will be raising the Christmas spirit as they get ‘hatty’ to raise funds to help find a cure for brain tumours.
Julie Mcloughlin, kitchen manager of The George Hotel in Hailsham is asking colleagues and customers to take part in Wear A Christmas Hat Day on Friday 17th December. Her fundraising comes after her mum Sue died from a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in September, aged 67.
Julie (pictured with her brother, Ian) is asking people to make a £1 donation to join the festive fun and encouraging those who don’t wish to take part to make a charitable donation. She expects to welcome around 1,500 customers on the day.
She said: “Although we’re a Wetherspoons, we’re a community-based pub here in Hailsham so we’ve got regulars who are friends and we’ll get support from them because they know what I went through recently with my mum and are willing to get involved.”
It is not the first time Julie has raised money for Brain Tumour Research. She took part in our 10,000 Steps a Day in February Challenge and her mum's sister Paula has just completed 100 Star Jumps a Day in November for the charity.
Julie added: “As a family we want to do anything we can to help raise awareness of brain tumours, and I know it’s something my mum would have wanted, not just what they are and how they can be treated but what they do to families and how they are affected by them.”
