It’s the final countdown to Wear A Hat Day

There are just five more days to go until thousands of supporters put their hats on to support Brain Tumour Research.

With families getting hatty at home, pupils getting creative in the classroom, workplaces wearing hats and communities coming together for a good cause, the final preparations are being put in place for Wear A Hat Day events all across the UK.

Amongst those taking part will be pupils at Halfway Community Primary School in Carmarthenshire (pictured). Their fundraising is inspired by parent Jessica Jones, who is living with an acoustic neuroma and whose three daughters, Ellie, nine, and five-year-old twins Emily and Lily will be amongst 240 pupils wearing their favourite hats and make a donation on Friday 25^th March.

A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party always promises to be good fun and Bee Smith, owner of Bee Smith Millinery, and Judy Bentinck, owner of Judy Bentinck Millinery, are expecting up to 50 people to attend their event, including the Mayor of Kingston, Cllr Sushila Abraham and Sarah Olney, MP for Richmond Park & North Kingston. Bee, who supports Brain Tumour Research after the death of her beloved godparents to the disease, has encouraged other milliners to take part and 55 other members of the British Hat Guild are taking part on the day.

Meanwhile, what started as a get together with friends in Catherine Owens’ dining room, has snowballed into an event for 150 guests, being hosted at Samlet Social Club in Llansamlet, Swansea. Catherine lost both her grandfathers to brain tumours and the party is being organised with the help of close friends who have also been affected by the disease. Guests will enjoy entertainment from local comedians, musicians and a magician, as well as a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses and the chance to win best hat in show.
