Friends cycle 100 miles in memory of Lynne

Today (18th July 2024) a group of friends will be setting off on a 100-mile cycle challenge in memory of their friend Lynne Adams (pictured below), who passed away from a brain tumour.

Karen Richardson, 65, and the rest of the “Chalford mums” will be cycling, raising money and awareness for Brain Tumour Research as they go.

In 2021, Lynne Adams was diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM) and passed away only 21 months later in 2023 at the age of 63.

Decades of friendship started in the group when they met nearly 30 years ago, after moving to the village at a similar time. Soon the “Chalford mums” were doing everything together from birthdays to holidays. The group have kept Lynne close to their hearts when choosing the route for the cycling challenge as they will begin in Chalford and travel 100 miles to Chew Valley Sailing Club, Lynne’s “happy place”.

Karen (pictured below) said: “We miss Lynne dreadfully, but it’s her memory that keeps us going up and down all these hills. She would love what we’re doing, and probably think we’re mad for trying to do this.”

Fellow riders, Kate Sackett and Julia Woods, will also be remembering loved ones as they complete the testing challenge. Kate lost her husband Mark, while Julia has lost four friends to this devastating disease.

They are all determined to raise £2,740 for Brain Tumour Research, the cost of sponsoring a day of research at one of the charity’s Centres of Excellence.

Karen added: “This ride means so much to us all, and we are willing to push ourselves to the absolute limit to raise as much as possible for Brain Tumour Research.”
