Today we are remembering Danny, the inspiration for our Member Charity The Danny Green Fund, lost to a brain tumour 10 years ago.
Danny died on 25 July 2012, aged 11, just eight months after his diagnosis with a brain tumour. He had undergone six operations and endless cycles of chemotherapy and was left with Posterior Fossa Syndrome (PFS) following surgery. It meant he was unable to communicate, move unaided, hold his head up, balance or walk.
His family, which includes parents Lisa and Chris and sister Hollie, set up The Danny Green Fund in his memory to help families who have children affected by PFS and disabilities caused by brain surgery, as well as to fund research into brain tumours which kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.
Lisa said: “This is a difficult year for us as not only are we marking 10 years since we last saw and hugged Danny, but we also had to face what should have been his 21st birthday in February this year. For us, Danny will always be 11; we have been denied the joy of seeing him grow into a man, making new memories, as well as where his path in adulthood would have taken him.”
Danny’s incredible legacy through The Danny Green Fund includes raising around £785,000 to help more than 40 children with life changing effects following surgery and sponsoring 31 days of research at one of our Centres of Excellence.
