Performing arts students are preparing for a hattastic week of fundraising to help find a cure for brain tumours.
Members of Zennor’s Dance and Musical Theatre Academy are swapping their dancing shoes in favour of homemade hats for Wear A Hat Day on Friday 31st March. More than 50 people, aged four to 70, will craft their own hats and take part in a week of hat-themed fundraising activities, including a bake sale and raffle.
They are raising funds for Brain Tumour Research inspired by Richard Law, a member of the community and long-time friend of academy owner Zennor McGuire.
Police constable Richard Law was diagnosed with an inoperable glioma in 2014. The father-of-two underwent six weeks of radiotherapy followed by almost three months of chemotherapy, but the tumour was unresponsive. Richard died in February 2020, aged 43, leaving his wife Kate and teenage children, Thomas and Sophie.
Zennor said: “I saw how this disease can impact the life of the person and their loved ones which is why it is so important for me to support Brain Tumour Research to honour Richard.
“The children at the academy are brilliant when it comes to fundraising and I know they are looking forward to the week we have planned. I am encouraging them to make their own hats and will host a competition for the most colourful one.”
