Brain Tumour Research has joined leading charities and organisations in signing a letter to the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, raising the challenges posed by brain tumours.
Our CEO, Dan Knowles, is one of seven signatories on the letter which encourages him to work with us in his new role to tackle this devastating disease. The letter is also signed by The Brain Tumour Charity, Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission, brainstrust, Brain Tumour Support, Tessa Jowell Foundation and Cancer Research UK.
Emphasising our readiness as a community to tackle this disease, the letter highlights the challenges posed by brain tumours which must be addressed in order to change the shocking statistics surrounding the disease and improve patient outcomes.
It presents five key opportunities in the brain tumour community, including that we are a small, unified disease community with a tightly-knit NHS and scientific workforce and a collaborative charity sector; opportunities in basic and translational research and a keenness to develop these; promising developments in genomics and precision medicine; an NHS workforce committed to service improvement and sharing excellence across the country; and a significant opportunity to improve patient quality of life.
The letter concludes by inviting the Secretary of State to meet and work with us to improve outcomes for the 34 people every day who are diagnosed with a brain tumour.
