The National Cancer Plan

2 min read

Hello everyone,

This week, the Government published its landmark National Cancer Plan, which sets out sweeping reforms to how cancer is diagnosed and treated in England: The National Cancer Plan for England: delivering world class cancer care.

Plans to tackle rare cancers – including brain tumours – are a key part of the strategy and we are proud that our work with Government has helped to secure this focus. Thank you to our supporters who have shared your stories to help us make the case for change with ministers and policy makers. You can read more about our initial thoughts on what the cancer plan means for patients in England on our blog.

Our hard work continues to ensure the plans are implemented to genuinely make a difference for the community. We will hold Government to account on its pledges.

The National Cancer Plan only applies to England, and we will continue to work across the UK to improve research and ensure that inequalities in cancer treatment do not persist. As you will know from our campaigning team’s work across the Devolved Nations: we are lobbying for better health outcomes for brain tumour patients right across the UK, to deliver progress towards our vision of finding a cure for all types of brain tumours.

A reminder that our next All-Party Parliamentary Group on Brain Tumours will take place on 10th February at 6pm in the Thatcher Room, Portcullis House. If you have not yet asked your MP to join the upcoming meeting, please do get in touch with them this weekend. You can find a template email here and please remember to cc jana.abdalrahman@braintumourresearch.org into your email.

Looking to future parliamentary business next week, the debate on increasing survival rates for brain tumours will take place on 9th February. Please do contact your local MP and share your personal stories. This is a great opportunity to make the case for increased investment in research into brain tumours.
