In two weeks, Her Majesty the Queen will become the first ever British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
Lots of people are planning a right royal knees up and, as well as being an exciting opportunity to get together, for charities, it’s an exciting fundraising moment. So, we asked our Fundraising team to share some simple ideas for how you can help support our vital work to find a cure for brain tumours, whilst enjoying the festivities.
Charlie says: Host a platinum party!
There’ll be street parties galore to mark this once-in-a-lifetime celebration, and it’ll be a great opportunity to raise much-needed funds whilst celebrating with your loved ones.
You could go big and organise a street party, get out in the (hopefully) great weather and enjoy a garden party, or keep it traditional and host an afternoon tea. Ask all your family, friends and neighbours to make a donation to attend and celebrate with you.
We can send branded collection boxes so you can maximise the funds you raise on the day and you can print our colourful bunting to brighten up the day. Plus, it’s really easy to set up a JustGiving page so that people can still donate even if they don’t have cash. We can also provide other fundraising materials. Just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
Mel says: Put on your creative crown!
Let your creative juices flow and organise a craft session – royal-themed of course. Get everyone you know involved and paint portraits fit for a queen, try your hand at knitting a corgi or Her Majesty like the fabulous Burston Knitters (pictured below), make your own crown jewels, junk model a Jubilee scene – there are so many different ideas to choose from. You could even make a ‘crafternoon’ of it and see how many royal-themed activities you can fit in.
A classic idea is to design and make your own crowns. Plus, you could then adorn your coronation creations with flowers and reuse them for Wear A Hat Day with Flowers on Friday 17th June!
Ask for a minimum donation of £10 to join in and organise a raffle or tombola to boost the funds you raise. Remember to ask people to donate prizes and check out our merchandise for anything you could sell on the day, like our special limited-edition crown pin badge.
Matt says: Hold the queen of all quizzes!
Quizzes are a quintessential fundraising idea and good fun too! And what’s great is that you can hold one just about anywhere.
Ask 70 questions for the Queen’s 70th year on the throne (break them down into seven rounds of 10 questions). Some ideas include:
- Guess the decade during which key events happened during Her Majesty’s reign
- Music round with royalty-themed answers (think Dancing Queen or anything by Prince or Queen!)
- First fives – get people to name the first five Prime Ministers during the Queen’s reign or the first five countries alphabetically in the Commonwealth
- A picture round to name actors playing ‘royals’ in TV and film
- Each team donates £2 per person and offer a prize for the winner. Hold a bonus round or game on the night and ask people to pay an extra pound to take part. Remember to let everyone know how much you’ve raised to support vital research to find a cure for brain tumours at the end of the evening.
