We are always amazed by the support we receive for our Digital Challenges, and August was no exception. Our Cycle 274 Miles in August and Run 31 Miles in August collectively raised more than £106,800 in support of our mission.
Among the inspiring participants was Elaine (pictured below), who completed our running challenge in spectacular fashion – running 31 miles in the UK and another 31 in South Africa.
Elaine’s husband, Paddy, was diagnosed with glioblastoma in September 2024. After eight weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, he was able to travel from their home in South Africa to the UK to spend time with family. Sadly, Paddy passed away in March 2025.
Elaine said: “Once Paddy was diagnosed, his oncologist told us there is no cure and treatment would only slow the tumour’s growth. We researched everything and were saddened to learn how little funding there is for research. I wanted to raise awareness and funding for this charity, hoping that one day there will be a cure.”
We were also delighted to see Odette (pictured below) take part in Cycle 274 Miles in August for the fifth year running.
Odette was diagnosed with a meningioma in April 2012 and underwent a full craniotomy the following month. She has since made a full recovery.
She told us: “It is now 2026 and I am still living my best life. I am lucky and I feel that if I can raise funds to help find a cure for others, it’s a good thing.”
