Brain Tumour Research is delighted to share an updated total from its 10,000 Steps a Day in February Challenge, with more than £370,000 raised so far and funds still coming in.
In its second year, the challenge once again attracted thousands of supporters from across the UK and beyond. Amongst those who took part were brain tumour patients and their loved ones, as well as supporters with no previous connection to the disease. They stepped forward raising vital funds to help find a cure and sharing their stories to raise awareness.
Amongst those celebrating finishing the challenge is 22-year-old Weronika Fafinska. She was just 12 when she was diagnosed with a grade 2 diffuse astrocytoma and, as a result of surgery to remove the tumour, suffered permanent memory loss which erased all memories of her childhood.
Weronika has smashed her fundraising target, raising nearly £700, and her story has been shared widely, including in The Sun, Daily Express, Daily Star, Herald and Metro.
She said: “Throughout my life, I haven’t thought about meeting people or getting a boyfriend because I thought there’s no point because I’ll die soon.
“With a brain tumour, you have three options: surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy, and often they’re not even that successful. If none of these work, you’re basically given a death sentence.
“I don’t want to die, so if there’s any hope that the money I raise helps to find a treatment, then it’s worth it.”
Our thanks go to all the incredible supporters who took part in 10,000 Steps a Day in February. The money and awareness you have raised will support our vital work and help us get closer to our vision of finding a cure for all types of brain tumours.
