We’re cheering on all the amazing supporters who are taking on the UK’s most iconic race today.
Some of our runners at the Virgin Money London Marathon have had an agonising 18-month wait to get to the starting line after disruptions caused by COVID-19. Good luck to everyone who is running and raising vital funds for Brain Tumour Research. Your incredible efforts will help us get closer to a cure for this devastating disease.
Amongst those pounding the pavements of the capital is Reverend Paul Summers. He is taking on the 26.2-mile route in support of his godson Ned Hilton, who was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma in 2018. Paul said his aim is to “get round the course in one piece and to raise as much money as possible to help find a cure for this terrible disease”.
Dan Walker (pictured) is also running despite having just eight weeks to train having undergone surgery and treatment for thyroid cancer. He is fundraising in memory of Darel Bryan, who died from a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in 2016. Darel’s partner Natalie says Dan is “an absolute hero and champion fundraiser” and will be cheering him on today.
Brothers Nick and Matt Thomas are running their first ever marathon for Brain Tumour Research after Nick was diagnosed with a meningioma in 2014. They are raising funds to bring hope and better outcomes for those diagnosed with this devastating disease.
Good luck again to all our Fighting Force team today. We hope you have an amazing time and we’ll be cheering you on as you cross that famous finish line.
