Brain tumour patients and those who have lost a loved one to the disease have been sharing their stories as they star in our Stop the Devastation campaign.
Sam Suriakumar and his family were interviewed on Sky News on the day the campaign launched. Dad-of-two Sam is living with an inoperable glioma which was diagnosed in February 2020.
He spoke of how he is fighting for his family and why he joined the Stop the Devastation campaign to help raise awareness. His wife Sindhu spoke of her pride that Sam is part of the campaign, saying: “We live for every day. We don’t try and think too far ahead.”
The campaign launch also saw Niki O’Dea Patel sharing her family’s heartbreak on GB News. Niki lost her 13-year-old son Shay to a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) last year. His family funded treatments abroad having exhausted the options available in the UK.
During the interview, Niki spoke about why she had joined the campaign, explaining that there would be no change in outcomes without increased funding into research. She spoke of the “shocking and appalling” historic underfunding of research into brain tumours and her hope that people would get behind the Stop the Devastation campaign to help improve outcomes for patients and their loved ones.
