Investment in research into brain tumours was the subject of a question being asked in the House of Lords today.
Lord O’Shaughnessy was asking “Her Majesty’s Government what financial support they are providing for research into therapies and treatments for people with brain tumours?”
The question was being answered by Lord Bethell, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
Following a long campaigning route, involving an e-petition with 120,000 signatures and the first Petition’s Committee report, a DHSC Task and Finish Group Report on brain tumour research landed on the desk of Lord O’Shaughnessy, in his then role as Health Minister, in February 2018. As this photograph shows the report was presented by patient activist Peter Realf, and Professor Chris Whitty who had been the Chair of the working group.
Lord O’Shaughnessy has continued to take a keen interest in brain tumour research.
Our Chief Executive Sue Farrington Smith MBE had an online meeting with Lord O’Shaughnessy last week and Brain Tumour Research produced a briefing document for him ahead of today’s question. We also supplied a briefing document for other Peers hoping to speak.
