As part of tomorrow’s Wear A Hat Day events, a children’s author is hosting a livestream fundraiser to entertain children stuck at home amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Martyn Harvey, 56, will read his book The Boy with the Saucepan Hat on a live Instagram vide to families across the UK. His story is aimed at children aged six and above and tells the humorous tale of a 10-year-old who gets a saucepan stuck on his head, while dreaming of fighting a dragon.
The live reading is taking place at 1pm on Friday 27 March. Martyn was inspired to join hundreds of people taking part of the campaign following his aunt’s diagnosis with the disease, and donated a percentage of sales from The Boy with the Saucepan Hat to Brain Tumour Research.
Martyn, from Ramsgate, said: “During such difficult and unprecedented times, I wanted to do my bit to entertain hundreds children who might be stuck at home. I also wanted to help their worried parents, struggling to cope with working from home at the same time as looking after their little ones.
“I decided to do the streaming as part of Wear A Hat Day, as Brain Tumour Research means a lot to me. It also fitted in with the idea of a boy getting a saucepan stuck on his head. I’m looking forward spreading a little happiness while fundraising for an important cause. I hope I inspire others to take part in the campaign, something people can easily do from their homes.”
