A team from Harrogate Audi has completed the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Brain Tumour Research.
On Sunday 27 June, 10 members of staff from the North Yorkshire car dealership took on the gruelling 26-mile circular route to the summit of all three Yorkshire Dales National Park peaks.
The team, which included vehicle technicians and office staff from sales and services, conquered the iconic three peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough within 12 hours, raising more than £3,500 for the charity.
Their motivation was Charlotte Giddings, the wife of Audi Harrogate’s Head of Business, Nick Giddings. Charlotte, a mum-of-two from Huddersfield, was diagnosed with a grade 2 oligodendroglioma in March 2015 after suffering with debilitating headaches. She has since undergone multiple brain operations and cancer treatment to help shrink the tumour.
Charli Marshall, who galvanised her colleagues to take part in the event, said: “We wanted to choose a charity close to our colleague’s heart. I was shocked to discover how little funding research into brain tumours gets compared to other types of cancer. We all felt privileged to be able to fundraise for such a worthy cause.
“The challenge itself was really tough, especially considering most of us are complete amateur walkers. I completed the walk in 12 hours but others managed it in as little as nine hours. The following days I think we all had aches, blisters and sunburn but we all felt really proud to have finished and to have helped raise thousands of pounds for Brain Tumour Research.”
