New Minister to join next APPG meeting

Hugh Adams 4 min read

Hello everyone,

Following the Easter recess, we were back at Westminster this week for an APPG planning meeting with our Chair Dame Siobhain McDonagh. This week’s update is therefore some information on that meeting and a request for you to contact your MP and ask them to join us.

We will be meeting for the APPG on Tuesday 2nd June from 5:30pm–7:00pm in the Wilson Room, Portcullis House and we are delighted to announce that we expect to be joined by the new Cancer Minister, Sharon Hodgson MP, who will speak about the Government’s priorities for cancer care and research.

Members of Parliament, patients and supporters will have the opportunity to hear directly from the Minister, and to engage on the urgent need to accelerate progress in the treatment of brain tumours and other rare cancers.

If you would like to ask the Minister a question, then please do send it to Hugh@braintumourresearch.org so we can collate the questions and then send them to the Minister’s office enabling them to get all of the information required to answer fully.

Minutes of the meeting, including answers to questions, will be published on the APPG page of our website.

If you are intending to join the meeting in person, it would be very helpful if you could let Hugh know too so we have an idea on the number of members of the public to expect on the 2nd.

We want as many MPs to join us as possible and we’d really like your MP to become involved by becoming a supporter of the APPG and a political advocate for the UK brain tumour community.

Here is the template email you can use and please do feel free to drop in any personal information you are happy to share to give your MP some context as to why you are so keen for them to support our work.

Subject: APPG on Brain Tumours Tuesday 2nd June February 17:30 Wilson Room, PCH

Dear [Your MP],

The APPG on Brain Tumours will meet on Tuesday 2nd June at 17:30 in the Wilson Room of PCH.

The APPG is expecting to be joined by the new Minister with responsibility for Cancer, Sharon Hodgson MP.

I have Cc’d Hugh Adams from the charity Brain Tumour Research – the group’s secretariat provider.

Hugh will provide you with an agenda and a briefing document ahead of the meeting.

I very much hope that you will be able to be there on the 2nd – this is a cause of great importance to me and your support would be hugely appreciated.

Kind Regards,

If you want to check your MPs email address click here and please don’t forget to Cc me into your email.

Many of you will have done this before, so please do so again, and if you haven’t then please do it for the first time. Nearly all the MPs currently engaged with our APPG have done so because of being approached by a constituent brain tumour research campaigner.

You can find out more about the work of the APPG here.

That’s it for this week. We’ll be back with another campaigning update next week and we wish you a peaceful time until then.
