Ambassador

Renowned actor Charles is best known for his 10-year portrayal of Big Mac in hospital drama Casualty as well as Coronation Street and Emmerdale. In 2024 Charles made the move into local government and politics, becoming the Deputy Mayor of his beloved hometown of Tenby.

Charles is a stalwart supporter of Brain Tumour Research, taking part in some of our biggest campaigns, such as #ShineALight and Wear A Hat Day. He is driven by three very personal connections to our community: he was a close friend of Coronation Street star Bill Tarmey whose son Carl died of a brain tumour; he worked with writer, poet and musician Benjamin Zephaniah, who also lost his life to this disease in 2023; he is good friends with fellow Ambassador and actor Craig Russell, who was diagnosed with a meningioma in 2023.

To kick off his fundraising, in May 2025 Charles embarked on an epic month-long challenge which saw him undertake a mammoth motorcycle journey across England and Wales, raising money for Brain Tumour Research and Headway in memory of his dear friend, Shaun Griffiths. Charles spent a total of 22 days on the road covering a massive 3,200 miles, during which he dropped in at 103 motorbiking cafés, using any and every opportunity to engage with fellow bikers and share our vision: to find a cure for all types of brain tumours.

Joining him along the way were some friendly familiar faces, including our Ambassador and actor, Craig Russell, and TV chef and Hairy Biker, Si King. Charles' challenge concluded with an event at The Bike Shed in London where attendees, including our Patron and motorbike enthusiast, Alfie Boe, celebrated a fantastic fundraising total of more than £8,200 and huge amounts of awareness raised.
