We welcome a new Fundraising Group

We are pleased to welcome The Wake Fundraising Group to our community.

The Group was set up in memory of Jonathan Wake, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in November 2019, after he collapsed at home. Jonathan underwent emergency surgery and was awaiting immunotherapy treatment when a scan revealed more tumours had grown. Sadly, he passed away in March 2020, just three months after his diagnosis.

Jonathan was a keen sportsman, having cycled through Europe and completed five marathons. On Father’s Day 2020, his family and friends organised a 4.4.48 challenge in Jonathan’s memory. The challenge saw participants running four miles every four hours for 48 hours – the equivalent of two marathons in two days. More than 300 people participated, with many friends and family completing the challenge in full.

Together, they raised £21,250 for Brain Tumour Research which is the equivalent of a week of research at one of our Centres of Excellence.

Over the coming year, The Wake Fundraising Group plans to take part in a number of sporting challenges and hopes to grow its 4.4.48 event to be even more impressive, turning Jonathan’s sporting passion into funds to help find a cure for this devastating disease.
