Pair’s memorial mountain trek

2 min read

A pair of ambitious fundraisers are set to take on a mountain trek for Brain Tumour Research this weekend inspired by a much-loved father who died from the disease.

Michael Sockolov underwent debulking surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy following his diagnosis with a glioblastoma (GBM) in 2021. He died just seven months after he was diagnosed, in April 2022, aged 68.

Now, Michael’s doting daughter, Liorah, is channelling her grief to help others. This Saturday (29th July), accompanied by her friend Jenny Harrold, she will climb Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), ascending 1,085 metres to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research.

Liorah said: “Dad liked hiking and had climbed a few mountains in the Lake District. He also wanted to relocate to Llandudno, which is close to Snowdon and where he has friends.

“I know he’d be extremely proud of us. One of his best friends also died of a brain tumour at the age of 40, so he’d be thrilled we’re raising money for Brain Tumour Research.”

She added: “I’m not really a hiker but I’m looking forward to it. I think it’ll be really emotional, but doing it for the charity will make me feel like I’m doing something for the better. I don’t want anyone else to have to go through what I did.”

The pair hopes to raise £2,740 to sponsor a day of research at one of our Centres of Excellence. To help her reach her target, please donate via JustGiving: www.justgiving.com/page/liorah-and-jenny-snowdon-trek-2023
