Emily Abel is fundraising in memory of her dad, Dan, who passed away five years ago today. Dan was diagnosed with a grade 2 astrocytoma in 2012, aged 39, and underwent three brain surgeries, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. He died on 17th November 2016, leaving his wife Katherine and three children, William, Oliver and Emily.
The odd jobs Emily has completed have included taking out the recycling, tidying her bedroom, making her brothers William and Oliver’s beds, and vacuuming the hallway. Having raised more than £1,150 so far, Emily is not showing any signs of letting up and her mum Katherine is having to compile a new list of jobs for this week.
Katherine said: “People have been very generous. We have a good group of friends and Dan had some great friends from university who have left comments on her donation page. Emily reads the nice messages people leave every day which makes her feel good and I’m pleased she can see that something positive can come out of such a horrible situation.
“Dan was a really great friend to a lot of people, a kind and decent person, a great dad and a family man who was very close to his family and mine. We all miss him dreadfully and wouldn't want any other family to go through what we have.”
To support Emily’s creative fundraising, please donate here.
Our thoughts are with all of Dan’s loved ones today on the fifth anniversary of his death.
