Brain Tumour Research sends congratulations to Brain Tumour Support on its 20th anniversary.
Founded under the name of Hammer Out in 2003, after CEO and Founder Tina Mitchell Skinner lost her husband Paul to a glioblastoma (GBM), the charity was established to provide specialist support for people whose lives have been affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.
The support service came from humble beginnings – Tina’s home telephone line offering support for people feeling isolated and small local meetings to share experiences with others going through a similar journey.
Brain Tumour Support’s reach now extends across the UK, with a team of trained support professionals, a specialist counselling service, finance and welfare benefits expert and a dedicated online support professional. It offers free to access services, including one-to-one support, support sessions and groups, end of life and bereavement support.
To celebrate two decades of providing support, the charity has released a special impact report, reflecting on the impact of its support over the last financial year and the past, present and future of the charity.
Sue Farrington Smith MBE, our Chief Executive, said: “My heartfelt congratulations go to Tina and the Brain Tumour Support team. Tina and Paul recognised the lack of support available when facing Paul’s diagnosis and borne out of that devastating experience is a charity providing this much-needed, often life-changing specialist support to patients, loved ones, parents, children, carers – indeed anyone affected by this devastating disease.”
