On Saturday 9th October, Brain Tumour Research supporters appeared as part of The Worshipful Company of Feltmakers’ float in the 2024 Lord Mayor’s show in London.
The long-standing tradition for the election of the Lord Mayor (separate from the Mayor of London) took place over the weekend, and centred on the Lord Mayor wearing a bespoke hat crafted by the Feltmakers.
Incorporated by James I back in 1604, the Feltmaker’s livery company is now primarily a charitable organisation and has been a vital supporter of Brain Tumour Research, as part of a three-year partnership.

Included in the parade were Brain Tumour Research Supporter Ambassador Sam Suriakumar and CEO Dan Knowles (above), each donning capes provided by the Feltmakers and our iconic silk top hats. Patron Danny Clarke (known as ‘the Black Gardener’) also attended, and gave an interview to BBC News, which was covering the event.
Brain Tumour Research’s attendance at the annual event was essential for continuing our vision to find a cure for all types of brain tumours. Brain tumours continue to kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet, to date, just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.
By appearing at events such as this, Brain Tumour Research is able to ensure brain tumour patients and the research they desperately need remain at the forefront of discussions in charitable and cultural organisations.
To help that work continue, you can donate as much or as little as you can. You also have the option of setting up a fundraising event.
