A woman who says she is “petrified” of heights is marking a decade since she underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour by braving her fears.
Adele Wise was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour in 2013. Her shock diagnosis came after she booked an eye test having experienced deterioration with her sight and was referred to hospital after the optician noticed an abnormality behind her left eye.
Adele had a procedure to remove the tumour via her nose. She now has 20/20 vision and says she feels “lucky” her brain tumour was low-grade.
To mark almost a decade since her surgery, Adele will face her fear of heights as she takes on the 100-metre descent of The Spinnaker Tower Abseil on Saturday 22nd April. She has already raised more than £500, more than three times her original target.
She said: “I always reflect on the anniversary of both my diagnosis and operation. This year I wanted to do something completely out of my comfort zone for such a significant anniversary. I’m petrified of heights so this will be huge for me.
“I can see the tower across the bay from the end of my road. Once I have done the abseil, I’ll be able to look at it knowing I have achieved something great whilst helping other people who are given the news of this terrible diagnosis.”
