A 14-year-old, who has raised more than £14,000 for Brain Tumour Research, has received a Children of Courage Award in recognition of his amazing fundraising.
William Priddy attended the special ceremony organised by The Knights Foundation at Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey on Saturday, accompanied by mum Jo and sister Amelia. He was invited up on stage to receive the Young Fundraiser of the Year award, and told the audience ‘thinking about people not going through what my dad went through just helps a little bit’.
William’s fundraising for the charity was inspired by his dad Greg’s diagnosis with a rare high-grade primary brain CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) in November 2020.
Encouraged to “do something positive” by a teacher, William began a mile a day running challenge in January 2021. He has been completing his daily run in his back garden as the family isolated for more than a year at home to protect Greg from COVID-19.
He has also upped his running distance to complete a number of impressive challenges, including a virtual London Marathon, a daily four-mile advent run and last May, he ran 104 miles in a month – the equivalent of four marathons – inspired by our Jog 26 Miles in May challenge.
Jo said: “Wills had a fantastic time. It was emotional to watch him get up on stage and sad that Greg couldn’t be there to see it, but we are all very proud of him.”
