Mark Dilley is joining our 11-mile Walk of Hope along the Grand Union Canal from The Three Locks pub in Stoke Hammond to The Grove Lock pub near Leighton Buzzard and back again. He’s stepping up for the challenge inspired by his son, Adam, who was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in October last year.
Adam – whose diagnosis came when his partner Tasha was seven months pregnant – has undergone a craniotomy, which was filmed as part of the BBC 2 series Surgeons: At the Edge of Life, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
In December, he and Tasha celebrated the arrival of their son, Alfie. Adam is now awaiting his next MRI scan to see if his tumour is stable and what further treatment, if any, is available to him.
Mark said: “I’m really looking forward to the Walk of Hope. I did the charity’s 10,000 Steps a Day in February challenge earlier this year but I’ve never walked 11 miles before in one day. As there’s a pub at the start and finish, I expect Wendy will be waiting for me in the bar at the end and, hopefully, Adam and Tasha will be there if they feel up to it.
“Brain Tumour Research has been there for us since the start. It helped raise awareness about Adam’s GoFundMe page after his diagnosis put immense pressure on his and Tasha’s finances and now we’re returning the favour by helping to create more awareness of brain tumours and raising as much money as we can.”
