Foysol Choudhury MSP (Scottish Labour Lothian) has lodged a motion for a Members’ Business Debate in the Scottish Parliament to mark Brain Tumour Awareness Month.
For a motion to be considered for a Members’ Business debate, it must get signatures from MSPs in different political parties. Once a motion has cross-party support, then a group called the Parliamentary Bureau makes the decision on whether the motion should be debated in the Chamber.
This motion, which can be read online here, draws attention to Brain Tumour Awareness Month, emphasises the importance of brain tumour research and shines a light on the patient population across Scotland.
It also notes that brain tumours must be treated as a clinical and strategic priority by government, as a "cancer of unmet need", and calls on money to be ring fenced to help support discovery science.
The motion has already received the support of 16 MSPs.
