A woman from Essex has sacrificed her long, flowing locks to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research.
Marie Anbouche braved the shave on Saturday having been inspired by her mum Linda Dillaway’s diagnosis with a low-grade cerebral meningioma in 1997. Linda has undergone multiple brain surgeries, the most recent one lasting 14 hours, and now walks with the use of a frame.
Marie, a mother-of-two, tasked her son, Archie, 20, and daughter, Rosie, 14, with chopping off her long, curly, coral-coloured locks, which she described as a “massive part” of her personality. She also organised a charity pub quiz and raffle, held after the head shave.
She has raised an incredible total of more than £2,800 – enough to sponsor a day of research at one of our Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence – and her fundraising made it onto the front page of her local paper, The Halstead Gazette.
Marie said: “I’ve been so overwhelmed by everyone’s love and support. I was so emotional and just kept crying when I saw how much had been raised. I find it shocking how many people suffer from brain tumours, especially as so many are kids, it’s awful. I just don’t understand why it’s so underfunded, which is why doing this is so important to me.”
