Incredible supporter completes year-long running challenge

1 min read

The finish line is in sight for one of our amazing supporters who has completed a 5km run every day in 2020 to raise money to help find a cure for brain tumours

On 1 January, Rick Dickens set out on his first run, pledging to complete the 5km distance every day for the whole year. He was inspired to raise money for Brain Tumour Research after losing his close friend, Danny Jones, to a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) brain tumour in 2015, aged 31.

To keep things interesting, Rick has completed one run each month in fancy dress and has worn costumes including a giant toilet roll, a t-rex and an elf! In July, he also organised a virtual run which saw more than 350 people donating £10 to take part and run their own 5km.

Incredibly, as Rick’s challenge comes to an end, he has clocked up a distance of more than 1,800km, documenting each run on Twitter @DadsRuns. His amazing efforts have raised more than £14,000 – enough to sponsor five days of research at one of our Centres of Excellence.

If Rick has impressed you with his amazing achievement, there is still time to donate to support him. Please visit his JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/DadRuns
