A hundred golfers will put their handicap to the test at a memorial golf day honouring a man who died from a brain tumour.
The event, which is being held at the Boston Golf Club today (Friday 18th August), is raising money for Brain Tumour Research inspired by Paul ‘Wally’ Walden who died from the disease in November 2020, aged 57.
It’s the third such event which has been held in Paul’s memory. Last year, a golf day at Sleaford Golf Club raised £9,500 for Brain Tumour Research. The inaugural event in 2021 raised £9,000.
Paul’s friends Stephen Spring, Mark Heale, Ian Tyler, and Ian Evison have organised this year’s event, which will feature 25 teams of four players.
Ian said: “Paul’s death came as a huge shock to everyone who knew him. He was a top bloke, always smiling and having a laugh and he was known by so many people. Fifty-seven is such a young age to die. We are all really keen to keep Paul’s memory alive and we want to make the golf day an annual event.”
Stephen added: “We’re trying to raise as much money as we can. Paul liked his golf, and he was a decent player, so this is a good way to remember him. Brain tumours are devastating so we want to do what we can to help find a cure.”
