A brain tumour patient who has outlived his prognosis is calling on people to support our Wear A Hat Day campaign this year.
Drag queen Eddie Adams, from Bedford, who came third in a pilot audition for popular reality TV show Ru Paul’s Drag Race in 2015, is backing our flagship fundraiser, which takes place at the end of Brain Tumour Awareness Month.
Eddie is asking people to join us in wearing their favourite hats, holding hat-themed events and making donations on Thursday 28th March to help find a cure for all brain tumours and stop this disease devastating lives.
The 35-year-old was given just three to five years to live when he was diagnosed with a grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma after suffering a seizure in August 2017.
He underwent two surgeries, the last of which left him with a misshapen skull, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Ultimately though, he decided to stop treatment.
Eddie said: “The treatments for brain tumours are brutal and, with my prognosis being so poor and the fact the drugs I was on could only extend my life by 10%, I decided I’d rather make the most of the precious time I had left.
“I’m not afraid of dying but I do think the historic underfunding of brain tumour research is scandalous and I am determined to do all I can to help turn that situation around. Campaigns such as Wear A Hat Day are a great opportunity for me to do that.”
