Today we welcome a new Fundraising Group to our family. Stronger Together for Nicola has been set up by the family of Nicola Robinson after they lost her in October 2021. Primary school teacher Nicola, mum to two young children, was just 35 years old.
For two weeks in November 2018, Nicola was complaining of a sore head and having dizzy spells.
Her GP sent Nicola to hospital to get checked over and an MRI scan revealed a large mass on her brain. Later that month Nicola had two seven-hour awake craniotomies at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast on what turned out to be a diffuse astrocytoma, followed by gruelling radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment.
In the summer of 2020, Nicola had some seizures and an MRI scan showed new tumour growth so she underwent further chemotherapy. Nicola was willing to do anything to extend her time with her children Alfie and Amelia.
By the spring of 2021, Nicola had lost the power and function in her right hand, followed by her right foot. She continued to deteriorate and passed away in her local hospice surrounded by family, leaving a huge void in their lives which ‘can never be filled’.
Husband Alan, who along with a group of friends and family is kicking off the fundraising with seven half-marathons and a full marathon this year, said: “Nicola was a beautiful girl, not only on the outside, but her inner beauty and kindness was something rarely found. She was the perfect mummy to our children and would literally have done anything for anyone. I hope Stronger Together for Nicola will help to bring about better outcomes for brain tumour patients.”
