A huge well done to Wayne Byles who completed 12 half marathons in 12 days, raising more than £3,700.
Dedicated Brain Tumour Research supporter Wayne ran an astounding 157.2 miles between December 20 and New Year’s Eve.
The fundraiser was inspired by Wayne’s family friend and father figure, Jim Murray. Jim, a retired police officer with the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, lives with the most common type of primary malignant brain tumour in adults – a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). He is currently recovering from debulking surgery and has just started chemotherapy treatment.
Since Jim’s diagnosis in December 2017, his friends and family members have set up a Fundraising Group under the umbrella of Brain Tumour Research, Canoeing for a Cure. They have raised more than £12,000 to date.
Wayne said: “Over the 12 days of Christmas, completing 12 half marathons was the perfect challenge to demonstrate my commitment to raising much needed funds and awareness for Brain Tumour Research.
“During the Christmas period, Jim was scheduled to have a tumour resection for the second time in two years. At the same time, a colleague of mine was supporting his wife through a similar procedure.
“The challenge was extremely tough but my success relied heavily on the friends and family members accompanying me during each run; I had at least one running partner for the 12 runs.”
