We are delighted to announce that a new fundraising group has joined the Brain Tumour Research family.
The One Pound Warriors was the brainchild of Southend schoolgirl Lillie Cotgrove when a close friend was diagnosed with a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma last September.
Lillie wanted to help and, with assistance from her mum Sarah, set up a Facebook group encouraging people to join and pay £1 in order to raise the £300,000 needed to fund a clinical trial in the US.
The girls’ story captured the hearts of the nation and, extraordinarily, the target was reached in a matter of weeks.
Sadly it was too late for Lillie’s friend who passed away in February, just five months after her diagnosis.
Today the One Pound Warriors becomes an official Brain Tumour Research Fundraising Group and is setting out to raise a magnificent £1million to help in our mission of improving patient outcomes, lobbying governments and the larger cancer charities to invest more in research, and, ultimately, to find a cure for brain tumours.
The One Pound Warriors becomes the 55th Brain Tumour Research Fundraising Group proving that there is power in numbers and, by working collaboratively towards a common goal, we can give a voice to patients and their families and make a real difference.
