We’re thinking about Zara’s loved ones and especially her parents Keith and Beverly and husband Jordan, as they mark the first anniversary of her death.
Zara Taylor, an NHS worker, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in January 2021, aged 30, after suffering seizures out of the blue, just a year after getting married. She underwent surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, as well as pursuing privately funded treatment alongside her standard-of-care NHS treatment, but nothing could save Zara and she passed away last year, aged 33.
Discovering that brain tumours kill more people under the age of 40 than any other cancer, Zara set up the Fundraising Group Zara’s Appeal for a Cure, determined to help make a difference and bring hope to brain tumour patients in the future.
On the fundraising page she set up, Zara wrote: “From day one I have shared my story and spend my time raising money for vital research for Brain Tumour Research through taking part in challenges and organising events.” Her fundraising initiatives included Wear A Hat Day, Walk of Hope, 10,000 Steps a Day in February and 26 Miles in May, as well as organising a big party for more than 100 family and friends, which collectively raised an incredible total of more than £19,000.
Zara’s loved ones are continuing her extraordinary legacy in her memory, last month taking part in our Walk of Hope at Chatsworth House, which attracted more than £3,200 to Zara’s Appeal for a Cure’s fundraising campaign.
We would like to honour all who love and mourn Zara.
